Release 0.90 went out on 19 October. It's the biggest release in a while, with a full set of tools for restaurants and takeaways.

Restaurant ordering (pilot)

A restaurant or takeaway can take orders on its own site, for collection or for its own local delivery, during the hours its kitchen takes them. Dishes can have sizes and choices, such as a sauce or extras, each with its own price, and the customer can add a note like "no onions". Every dish shows its allergens, and so does every choice.

Each new order rings in the kitchen. Staff accept it by tapping how long it will take, and only then is the customer's card charged and told when to expect it. An order nobody accepts in time is turned down and refunded automatically. When the kitchen is busy, waiting times go up on their own, and staff can pause new orders for a while with one button.

Delivery goes to the postcode areas you choose, with a minimum order if you want one. Checkout tells a customer outside the area that collection is still open to them, or how much more they need to add. Customers can order for later today, or a few days ahead if you allow it.

The Bistro theme

The new Bistro theme is built for this. The menu is the home page, its sections stay in reach as you scroll, and dietary filters and a search box narrow it down. A strip under the header says whether the kitchen is open, until when, and how long orders are taking, and the order is always in view. See storefronts.

Table bookings and table service (pilot)

Guests can book a table on your site, and a signed-in guest finds the form already filled in. Bookings are held against real tables, so the last one can't be booked twice. You set the sittings, how long a table is kept and how many guests can arrive at once, and the front of house runs the evening from a diary.

Table service runs from the Badger app, which is coming soon. Servers open a tab when a party sits down and take the order seat by seat and course by course. They send each course to the kitchen when the table is ready for it, then split the bill and take each guest's payment and tip at the table. The admin keeps a record of tips, service charges and anything taken off a bill. All of the restaurant features are off by default.

Tax on prices that exclude it

For shops whose prices exclude tax, such as US sales tax or trade prices, Stripe Tax now works out the tax at checkout, shows it to the shopper before they pay, and reverses it when an order is refunded. See payments.
