Everything a gift card scheme needs
Gift cards are part of the platform: the same products, checkout, orders and admin as everything else you sell.
Digital gift cards
The buyer adds the recipient's email, name and a personal message. When the order completes, the card is created and emailed to the recipient with its number and PIN.
Physical gift cards
Sell posted cards as products with their own fulfilment, alongside the rest of your range.
Top-ups
Customers add value to a card they already have by entering its number, through an ordinary product page and checkout.
Pay with a gift card
Shoppers enter the card number and PIN at checkout and see the balance straight away. Pay part by gift card and the rest by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Balances that can't go wrong
The balance is held while a payment is authorised, then confirmed when it's captured or released if it fails, so a card can't be spent twice.
Refunds back to the card
Refund an order paid by gift card and the money goes back onto the card, recorded in its transaction history.
Run it from the admin
Every card has a full history: when it was issued, every charge, top-up and refund, and its current balance. Card numbers are masked, and only a super-admin can reveal a PIN.
Search cards by number and see every transaction
Gift card orders in the same order list as everything else you sell
Admin REST endpoints to list, search and report on cards
AI assistants can look up a card and its history, with numbers masked
Secure by design
PINs encrypted with AES-256-GCM, with a separate key for every shop
Cards scoped to their shop: one shop can never see another's
16-digit card numbers and PINs generated from a secure random source
Card payments themselves still handled by Stripe
Your provider, or ours
Already have a gift card provider?
Badger's gift card system is built on a provider interface. Each shop chooses whether its cards are issued and run by Badger itself or by an external provider. Savvy is supported today, and other providers can be added the same way.
What's next
A gift card API for other tills and shops
Because the scheme runs entirely on Badger, opening it up is a short step: an API so a gift card sold on your Badger shop can be checked and redeemed in another till, app or website. If that would be useful to you, talk to us. We're shaping it with the people who need it.
See it working, then decide
